With over a decade of experience in regulatory affairs, Nicholas Swartzwelder has played a pivotal role in shaping policy and guiding compliance in highly regulated industries. As a leader in cannabis advocacy and reform, Nicholas has delivered strategic insights on cannabis rescheduling and advocacy for the development of an accessible, equitable and safe regulatory environment for both medical and recreational cannabis. He has focused on bipartisan advocacy to advance federal cannabis reform that keeps consumers and patients top of mind.
As a consultant Nicholas has advised two leading cannabis edibles companies, ensuring compliance with complex regulations while positioning these brands for long-term success through strategic business development and regulatory foresight. He has also worked with a number of non-profit advocacy organizations to navigate
Recently Nicholas took a career break to explore Latin American cultures, traveling extensively and volunteering with various organizations across Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico. This transformative experience enhanced his adaptability, cultural awareness, and global perspective. Returning with renewed energy, he has focused energy in cannabis and psychedelics policy reform leveraging a wealth of regulatory knowledge and international experience to drive impactful outcomes in the United States and across the globe.
During his tenure at Altria, Nicholas held several roles, including Associate Manager of Regulatory Advocacy, where he developed partnerships with industry stakeholders and led corporate efforts to influence policy and promote harm reduction strategies. As a Senior Specialist in Regulatory Communications & Policy, he spearheaded cross-functional teams to engage regulators and elected officials, fostering critical relationships and ensuring strategic alignment across various business organizations.
