Addressing the challenge of CBD bioavailability: technology benchmarking & improved pharmacokinetics
Cannabidiol (CBD) is fast emerging as an exciting ingredient across the pharmaceutical market, powered by increasing scientific research investigating its potential benefits in a number of disease states, including central nervous system (CNS) disorders, pain management, cancer and more. While there is a remarkable opportunity for the development of CBD-based therapies in the field, formulating a highly lipophilic API (logP = 6.3) and poorly soluble crystalline API can be a challenging task, especially when the focus is on increasing the oral bioavailability of the molecule.
Learning Objectives:
- The ongoing research activities strive to correlate the physical properties of the differently formulated API with their respective in-vitro bioaccessibility profile and eventually their in-vivo pharmacokinetic performance
BIO
Experienced people manager, scientific lead and project manager with a demonstrated history of working in controlled delivery of bioactives, as well as design & development of encapsulation systems and functional solid dosage forms (in both academic and industrial settings). Strong research skills in Materials Science, Formulation Technologies, Protein Biochemistry and Characterization techniques. Good experience in managing complex innovation projects from early ideation phase up to process and product development in both human and animal nutrition and health market segments.
