BIO
After completing my PhD in Plant Pathology at Ghent University in Belgium, I relocated to Canada to further my research on economically significant fungal and bacterial diseases as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Guelph (Ontario). This work contributed to the development of a novel eco-friendly plant defense activator. In my second postdoctoral appointment, I focused on the intersection of plant pathology and plant breeding at the University of Guelph, where I worked on resistance breeding against two major fungal diseases of wheat in Canada: Fusarium Head Blight and Stripe Rust. In 2021, I joined the Aurora Cannabis Breeding and Genetics team to lead pathology research on genetic resistance to powdery mildew, one of the most critical diseases affecting the industry. My current research team focuses on various aspects of cannabis pathology, including resistance breeding, integrated disease management, and pathogen and disease diagnostics.
